The Journal of Lipid Research focuses on the science of lipids in health and disease. The journal emphasizes lipid function and the biochemical and genetic regulation of lipid metabolism and aims to be on the forefront of the emerging areas of genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and lipidomics as they relate to lipid metabolism and function. In addition, JLR publishes manuscripts on patient-oriented and epidemiological research relating to altered lipid metabolism, including modification of dietary lipids. The editors welcome methods papers that provide new ways of purifying, identifying and quantifying lipids.

New in the Journal of Lipid Research: "Amino acid residues L261, W264, F265, L268, and V269 of Apolipoprotein E4 critically regulate adipose tissue metabolism." Findings suggest that amino acid residues 260–270 of APOE4 critically regulate adipose tissue metabolism, in addition to their previously reported role in APOE-induced hypertriglyceridemia.

This #JLipidRes cover shows RAW264.7 cells, treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and stained with DAPI (blue), apoA1 (red), LAMP1 (green), a marker of lysosomes. The yellow puncta indicate co-staining between apoA1 and LAMP1. Other experiments showed that the HDL receptor SRB1 is degraded via the lysosome in response to LPS.

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, or CIDP, is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks and destroys the myelin sheath, a lipid-rich protective layer that covers and insulates the peripheral nerves.

In a recent Journal of Lipid Research study, Kristina auf dem Brinke of the University Medical Center Göttingen and a team of researchers identified biomarkers of this devastating disease by comparing plasma lipid profiles of CIDP patients with those of patients diagnosed with non-demyelinating neurological disorders.
